1. What is a chiropractor?

A primary care healthcare professional that focuses on Vertebral Subluxation correction to allow the patient's body to heal and work at its full potential.

Traditional health care focuses on the germs and blood. Chiropractic Health Care in Madison Heights produces results by helping your nervous system work the way it should and allows you to be as healthy as you can be. Dr. Batton looks for areas of the spine that are misaligned and not functioning properly. These areas of dysfunction are called SUBLUXATIONS. Subluxations put pressure on delicate spinal nerves, which prevent the nerves from functioning properly. After several specialized tests to locate subluxations, specific techniques are used to move the misaligned spinal bone back into proper alignment. This is called a Chiropractic Adjustment.

2. What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a total healthcare approach that is focused on the analysis and correction of Vertebral Subluxation.

Usually, “symptoms” are the last thing to appear when there is a problem in our bodies. One example of this would be high cholesterol. It is possible to have high cholesterol and not have any symptoms. If you go to your medical doctor and he does a blood test and finds out that you have high cholesterol you are put on cholesterol lowering medicine even if you have no symptoms. Therefore, pain is not a good indicator of how healthy you really are or how well your body is working. What this means is that pain or a symptom is not a good indicator of your state of health. NO PAIN DOES NOT MEAN GOOD HEALTH. IT MEANS NO PAIN!

3. Are chiropractors doctors?

Yes, Chiropractors receive the same education as any other primary healthcare professional including MD and DO.

4. What is the History of Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic was founded in 1895 when Dr.  Palmer adjusted Harvey Lillard and by doing so restored his lost hearing.  From this Dr. Palmer surmised that removing interference to the nerves from the brain to the body would allow the human body to do what it does best which is heal itself.

Yes, the malpractice insurance companies verify this.  The annual cost for malpractice insurance for a Chiropractor is roughly $1,500.  The annual cost for an MD / DO is roughly $15,000.

7. How many chiropractic sessions do you need?

Everyone is different, in my 34 years of practice I have found that most people will be symptom-free in 3 – 8 visits but I then suggest regular maintenance care.

The length of care depends on the healing abilities of each person. Results may vary from person to person due to the amount of damage to their spine and nervous system. Your current condition determines the frequency of your office visits. It may take longer to correct subluxations that have been present in the spine for many years. As your subluxations become manageable, your frequency of visits will be decreased to a wellness schedule.
